Activism/Awareness Quilts

2. RE$I$TAN¢E April 2017 39" x 34" Real $1 USD were folded and manipulated to represent programs and legislation (ie.  affordable health care, environmental protection, education, women's rights, arts and sciences) that would truly make America Great for all.  Juried into the Threads of Resistance Traveling Exhibit, which included Pacific International Quilt Festival at the Santa Clara Convention Center in October 2017. 2. RE$I$TAN¢E

Real $1 USD were folded and manipulated to represent programs and legislation (ie.  affordable health care, environmental protection, education, women's rights, arts and sciences) that would truly make America Great for all.  Juried into the Threads of Resistance Traveling Exhibit, which included Pacific International Quilt Festival at the Santa Clara Convention Center in October 2017.

3. Peace of Mind 53" x 53" Improvisationally pieced using charms swapped with quilters around the country.  Background is stitched with messages of compassion and hope from family & friends along with 30 translations of Peace.  Won 2nd Place in Modern Quilts Small Category at 2017 California State Fair and juried into 2017 New Modern Quilt Competition at Pacific International Quilt Festival. 7. Crayon Etched Mandala March 2016 18" x 19" Inspired by crayon etched art from childhood.  A rainbow commercial print was covered with solid black fabric prior to free-motion quilting a mandala design.  Once complete, swatches of the solid black fabric were carefully trimmed away for a brilliant reveal.  Made for Project Quilting's Through a Child's Eye 1-week Challenge. Inspired by crayon etched art from childhood.  A rainbow commercial print was covered with solid black fabric prior to free-motion quilting a mandala design.  Once complete, swatches of the solid black fabric were carefully trimmed away for a brilliant reveal.  Made for Project Quilting's Through a Child's Eye 1-week Challenge.

10. CREA-TV November 2015 56" x 70" Retro television sets pieced using the challenge fabrics, complete with trapunto to create rounded tv screens.  Selected as a Finalist for the Be Creative! Quilt Challenge sponsored by McCalls Magazine, Quilters' Newsletter and Quiltmaker Magazine.  Included in the traveling exhibit and published in Quilters Newsletter (April/May 2016). Blog Post

Retro television sets pieced using the challenge fabrics, complete with trapunto to create rounded tv screens.  Selected as a Finalist for the Be Creative! Always Follow Your Heart November 2015 40" x 40" Triangle template challenge inspired arrow heads with chevron prints for the fletchlings.  Modern quiilting in the background creates the illusion of a target with a heart for a bullseye.  Won 3rd Place in Modern Quilts Small Category at 2017 California State Fair.  Juried into 2017 Road to California, Mancuso's 2016 New Modern Quilt Competition (2016 Oasis and Pacific International Quilt Festival) and New Quilts of Northern California exhibit.
